Time:3:05 am.
But it's been rough to do so, considering I've had a ton of work on my plate, creatively speaking.

Those that don't know, my New Year's Resolution is wrapped up and done. I'm not happy with how it turned out, although I enjoyed being able to play around a bit with certain elements and basically have a written wank off. So, if you've read anything re: Carl and his antics, that's pretty much a dead project. I'm satisfied with it, as it proves that I can do this sort of thing and it's led to working in other ventures.

Presently, I am engaging in a huuuuuuuuge world building project for part of a post-apocalyptic/steampunk world that I've been nattering on and off about since probably about October of last year. School got in the way of doing a lot of serious work on this (although I was able to work on a lot of basic research and compilation, if nothing else!) but I've been able to get one short story finished up. It's sort of a vignette into one of the main characters I plan on using for my story. Background? He's a black market doctor/necromancer with a gun that shoots electricity.

No, it's a little more fleshed out than that. Seriously.

Other than that, I've actually secured summer employment. I'm going to be working as an intern at MTV Canada during the week, and working at a pair of restaurants as a barback ( www.cocatapas.com and http://www.czehoski.com/ ) So, I can relax on that front.

Not much else to report. I've been reading and writing and keeping to myself. Listening to a lot of Tom Waits, as well as Burial (look them up.) Life's getting far more peachier than it has recently, which is great.

Oh, and the new place is working out fairly well. Had a mama raccoon deposit her babies on our back porch the other night and got to sneak a peek at 2 baby raccoons, which was cool. Fed them some chicken and apples while mom wasn't around.

I'll post some links soon.

In an attempt to try and revive this monstrosity, I am going to try and get back to using this as a research tool/database. Sprinkled in between entries will be information about what is going on in my life, if all goes well.

For those who I haven't been in touch with a whole lot, I have moved from my old residence in High Park to a new place on Bathurst St. There is a very long tale involving one of my roommates, pregnancy (with TWINS) and so on that I won't recount here because most folks have heard of it, but suffice to say it required me moving. So yeah, I am officially a part of the Annex now and I have to say that I really like the neighborhood. Only issues I have are with the fact that Bathurst is considered a main road, so I get to hear all sorts of traffic and what not. There's also a firestation not too far away from where I live and that means I get to hear all sorts of sirens at all hours of the day.

But really, those aren't huge issues.

Also, if anyone is looking for a place, we're looking for a third at Casa De Bathurst. Drop me a line here if interested.

I'm also starting to construct a bar. Or planning to, at least. Marc gave me a couple of bottles from his bar as a thank you, which I thought was super cool. That, combined with my meager collection means that I need to start expanding.

But I need a job first. Sigh.

But yes. I think that's more than enough inane details about my life. We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

Tom Waits - Come On Up to The House

Now what if I were to tell you about a video where the only thing you see are the lyrics to the song being displayed? I'm sure you'd probably beat me to death with a tire iron and confiscate my laptop, but this is (almost) exactly what goes on in this video. Except it's on a naked dude's body. And you get to see a beating heart. Check it out, another awesome little ditty from Tom Waits, whom I can't seem to be getting enough of these days.

Animals - House of the Rising Sun

I think just about everyone in the world has heard this song in some form or another, but not many know that there was actually a video done up for this song. I love this song, and the karoake lyrics at the bottom seal the deal for me. Eric Burdon walking so solemnly and sternly in this video reaches a level of cheesiness not seen until the mega-explosion of videos in the 80s thanks to MTV. Also, what's up with Burdon and the guitarists going for a little stroll? Did they forget about the drummer and keyboarder? You know, the guys who have to remain STATIONARY in order to perform their roles? What dicks.

Also: what is up with the one guitarist who keeps smiling like he's on X or something? Seriously, way to fuck up the video.

Still, classic song from a little known video.

Sick, Sick, Sick - Queens of the Stone Age

Okay. This is new, and this is me going back to the well for old reliable (Tom Waits and Queens in the same fucking post? Yeah, I know. I'm out of shape and rusty, sue me.)

Anyway, this song is pretty straightforward. Queens of the Stone Age are playing a dinner party for an attractive British (I think) cannibal model. It's a somewhat heavy handed premise for a performance video (not huge on those, by and large) but there are some good things to come out of this particular video. The rocking out of the band in the heavy red lighting totally screams oven, so I guess it's a good thing that Homme didn't go with the original title for this song: Shtick, Shtick, Shtick. Err, moving along.

The thing that sells this video for me is the performance the woman has. Most people, playing a cannibal, would ham it up and go way over the top with it. Something like Cannibal Holocaust or whatever cheesy E-Grade Movie that comes to mind. This chick, though, not so much. She plays it very lowkey for the most part. The bit with the bell at the very end? Forget Clarice, Hannibal, here's your bride. Absolutely delicious.

Paint by numbers post, but I got the urge to talk about music vids, so there ya go.

Subject:Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
Time:12:03 am.
Just thought I'd blip in and post this here. Posted at the usual sites (soon). Also, consider this an endorsement for a kickass record.

----

The latest Queens of the Stone Age disc was supposed to feature Trent Reznor, Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top, and Death From Above 1979 bassist Jesse Keeler. It resulted in a Tom Waits track being covered, with rumors of other individuals, such as deceased humorist Erma Bombeck making an appearance. However, there was no Gibbons, no Keeler, the album’s title track, “Era Vulgaris” and Reznor’s backing vocals, were nowhere to be found, and the Tom Waits cover of “Goin’ Out West”? Yeah, that made it out onto a limited edition b-side available in Europe. Founding member and former bassist Nick Oliveri is also not on the album, making it the second album without his maniacal shrieks.
